Maureen Maki was born in Flint, Michigan just as the auto factories of the Midwest were starting to close. This began her family’s frequent moves to industrial towns across Michigan. As the oldest of six children, she found escape in drawing and painting.

She attended art school at the University of Michigan and has been creating and exhibiting her work ever since. She lived in Detroit for ten years where she was heavily involved in the city’s art and music scene. She moved to Los Angeles in 2000 to pursue a career on the west coast.

She currently resides in Los Angeles with her husband Sam Lapides and their two cats Delia and Bertha.
